Marlboro Elementary School (MES) is proud to announce the launch of the inaugural edition of the MES Times, the school’s student-run newspaper created by members of the Grade 5 Newspaper Club under the thoughtful guidance of advisors Antoinette Barley and Gina Verdi.

The launch marks an exciting milestone for the young writers, who have officially become published student journalists. Through their work, students took initiative to curate, write, and publish original stories that reflect their ideas, creativity, and perspectives.

“This publication provides a meaningful platform for them to showcase their ideas, talents, and perspectives—and it was truly special to see their work come to life,” MES Principal Jena Thomas shared.

Students expressed excitement about joining the club and contributing to the newspaper.

Daze Zhu shared, “It’s because I always wanted to write and publish. Writing a newspaper seems fun and it’s an exciting new opportunity to make things to read.”

Lucy Lennon noted, “Both my parents are journalists and I believe I gained a lot of good traits from them.”

Hudson Barely said, “I love writing and it’s a fun thing to do after school and you get to hang out with new people and make new friends.”

When asked what they were most looking forward to, students shared their enthusiasm for the project’s impact. Logan Simmons said, “I’m excited to see what people will think about it and see what it will look like.” Markielia Boswell added, “I’m excited for everyone to enjoy it.”

The MES Times represents an ongoing opportunity for student voice, creativity, and collaboration at Marlboro Elementary School. Staff and advisors look forward to seeing the publication continue to grow in future editions.
