The Marlboro High School (MHS) Art Department is proud to announce that several students have won top honors in the 2025 Regional Scholastic Art Awards.

A total of 35 students entered this year’s competition, earning five Gold Keys, 10 Silver Keys, and 17 Honorable Mentions. In addition, senior Gabriella Alvarez received a Gold Key in American Visions. This prestigious honor, awarded to five students in each region, is based on originality, skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.

Gold and Silver Key winners will be recognized during an awards ceremony on February 6 at 7 PM at SUNY New Paltz’s Studley Theater. Following the ceremony, an opening reception will be held in the Fine Arts Building showcasing all Scholastic Art Award winners from throughout the region. The student exhibition will be on display through March 1. Gold Key winners will advance to the national level for judging and, if selected, will be honored at Carnegie Hall in June.

MHS Art teachers Amy Tremblay and Rachel Burroughs expressed pride in their students and excitement about the opportunity for several young artists to compete at the national level.

“These awards highlight the countless hours our students spend experimenting, revising, and pushing themselves creatively,” Tremblay said. “Their dedication to the artistic process and willingness to take creative risks are truly impressive.”

“It’s exciting to see our students’ work recognized on a regional stage,” Burroughs added. “This recognition reflects not only strong technical skill, but also curiosity, persistence, and the development of a distinct artistic voice.”

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are the nation’s longest-running recognition program for creative teenagers and the largest source of scholarships for talented young artists and writers. Submissions are judged by luminaries in the visual arts, with panelists seeking works that exemplify originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.
