Letter from the Superintendent

Dear Marlboro Learning Community,

As we continue to process the unimaginable events that are taking place in the Middle East, we are also surrounded by what can seem like constant media reports and social media posts.  Specific to social media, there are some concerning and disturbing posts that are being circulated.  Although these are not originating from or referencing our community, our students are likely being exposed to some of them via the various online platforms that they use.

While each of our schools has comprehensive character education programs with an emphasis on inclusivity and empathy, as well as strategic and research-based school and social media safety programs that are age and developmentally appropriate, we also recognize that our students are potentially being exposed to information or misinformation that can be difficult for them to process.  Our schools have counselors, social workers, and psychologists that are actively connecting with our students to ensure that additional support is available, as needed.  Additionally, our teams in each building stand ready to assist our parents/guardians in supporting our students during this difficult time.

Please note that there are resources available to further assist educators and parents/guardians in engaging our students in conversations and discussions as we all work together to protect our students in every aspect of their lives, and to ensure that every member of our learning community knows they are valued, respected, and accepted.  The following is a link that is being actively updated by the New York State Education Department with a wide variety of such resources:

Again, if there is any support or additional resources that are needed, please know that our outstanding team of school counselors, social workers, and psychologists are ready to provide assistance to all in our community.

Sincerely,

Michael Rydell
Superintendent of Schools
