National Emergency Alert Test

Dear Marlboro Central School District Families,

We want to ensure that you are aware of an upcoming nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alerts happening this Wednesday, October 4, at approximately 2:20 PM EST. This test is being conducted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

During the test, a wireless emergency alert will be directed to all consumer cell phones. The test message will be displayed in either English or Spanish, depending on the language settings of the wireless handset. To help ensure that these alerts are accessible to the entire public, including people with disabilities, the alerts will be accompanied by a unique tone and vibration. Radio, television, and cable broadcasts will also be interrupted.

Since many of our students will still be on school grounds at the time of this alert, we wanted to make sure that all families were informed of the broadcast schedule so they would not be alarmed.

For more detailed information about this nationwide test, please visit the FEMA webpage here.

Sincerely,
Michael Rydell
Superintendent of Schools
