The Marlboro Middle School chapter of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) has been recognized nationally for its outstanding commitment to leadership, service, and community involvement! The chapter earned the Service Award of Excellence from NJHS, which is supported by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP)—the same organization that oversees the National Association of Student Councils.
This honor celebrates chapters that go above and beyond in strengthening their schools and communities. At Marlboro Middle School, NJHS members did just that through their organization of a community Easter Egg Hunt for young children. The event featured fun activities like BINGO, arts and crafts, and even a visit from the Easter Bunny! More than just a day of fun, the project helped connect younger students with middle school role models and reinforced the importance of giving back.
“The NJHS Chapter Pillar Awards celebrate chapters that truly embody what the National Junior Honor Society stands for—students who don’t just excel academically but actively strengthen their communities,” said NASSP CEO Ronn Nozoe. “The Marlboro Middle School chapter demonstrates how powerful it can be when young leaders channel their talents toward meaningful service and positive change.”
NJHS co-advisor Andrea Viviani, who leads the chapter along with Daniel Nicosia, said service learning plays an essential role in student growth. “Service to our communities helps students develop empathy, responsibility, and a deeper understanding of the world around them,” she said. “Instilling these values in middle school students lays the foundation for lifelong civic engagement and leadership.”
The NJHS Chapter Pillar Awards recognize chapters across the country that exemplify one or more of NJHS’s core values: scholarship, leadership, service, and character. The Marlboro Middle School chapter’s achievement reflects the spirit of all four.
