Band students perform on stage

Marlboro’s Music Department recently hosted two inspiring, District-wide events that brought together student musicians from our Elementary, Middle, and High Schools.

On March 26, chorus students filled the High School auditorium for Choral Day, a full day dedicated to vocal development and musical connection. Led by Chorus teachers Susan Johnston, Stephanie Hu-Corbett, and Katie Budryk, students spent the day refining their skills through group rehearsals and engaging instruction.

The event was elevated by the presence of guest conductor Amanda Gundling, founder and artistic director of the Westchester Children’s Chorus, who led students in a moving mashup of Pink’s “Perfect” and “Just Give Me A Reason.” The day culminated in a powerful, all-chorus performance of “Stand Together” by Jim Papoulis—an uplifting finale that reflected the unity and spirit of the day.

Just a week later, on April 2, it was the instrumentalists’ turn to shine during Band Day. Under the leadership of Band teachers Zach Povall, Sam Forrester, and Eric Braunstein, students in Grades 5-12 came together on the High School stage to rehearse and perform iconic selections, including music from Jurassic Park and Star Wars.

The event not only showcased students’ musical talents but also emphasized mentorship and peer support, as older musicians offered advice and encouragement to younger participants.

“These events are more than just rehearsals and performances—they’re about building a sense of belonging, confidence, and shared purpose,” said Hu-Corbett, Music Department chairperson. “Watching students from all grade levels support one another and grow together musically is what makes our program so special.”

Bravo to all the talented students, educators, and guest artists who made these events hit a high note!
