Zachary Dina, a Grade 8 student at Marlboro Middle School and a dedicated member of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), is being recognized for his outstanding commitment to service, leadership, and social responsibility through the prestigious NASSP (National Association of Secondary School Principals) Student Service Grant program.

This competitive national initiative empowers student leaders to develop and implement transformative projects within their communities. Zach successfully secured a $600 grant to further his vision of enhancing the Marlboro Central School District’s Backpack Program, which aims to help alleviate childhood hunger. His award enables him to expand this vital service, ensuring that students in need receive essential food resources.

Zach’s effort extends beyond the classroom, as he has built strong partnerships with local businesses, including United Natural Foods, Inc., Stewart’s Shops, Dollar General, Pizza Town, Pizza on Union, Hannaford of Highland, and SC Designs and Apparel. These generous community partners have contributed food and financial donations, helping Zach’s mission thrive. With the unwavering support of his family, District administrators, and NJHS advisors Andrea Viviani and Daniel Nicosia, Zach is committed to sustaining and expanding the Backpack Program for years to come.

Zach is driven by a deep sense of compassion and leadership, saying, “No child should ever have to worry about going hungry, especially not the children in my own schools.” In addition to supporting the Backpack Program, he has also independently raised nearly $7,500 for the Wounded Warrior Project, underscoring his dedication to supporting those in need.

“Zachary Dina is not just a leader—he is an inspiration,” said Viviani. “His selfless contributions and relentless commitment to service exemplify the very best of Marlboro Middle School and the broader community. As he continues his journey, Zach’s impact will undoubtedly leave a lasting mark on the lives of many.”
