Students get a drum lesson

Marlboro Middle School celebrated Diversity Week from March 27-31. The school was all decked out for the festivities, and students enjoyed sampling daily menu items from around the world.

On March 29, internationally renowned master drummer Maxwell Kofi Donkor, along with members of his African drum ensemble, performed for students during their lunch periods. Donkor spoke about his native country of Ghana, shared information about the colorful garments the band members wore, and gave lessons on the instruments the musicians played. Many of the Dukes got in on the action, singing, dancing, and playing along to the rhythmic beats.

The week capped off on March 30 with the school's annual Diversity Night event. Guests sampled delicious food from around the world while learning about the diverse cultures represented in our community. Entertainment was provided by Madeline's Dance Studio and the Marlboro Central School District Jazz Band.

The event was well attended and a great time was had by all. Thank you to members of the MMS Student Council and their advisor, Kassia Connors, for organizing this special week!
