Cast members on stage

The Marlboro High School Drama Club deserves a big round of applause for delivering four stellar performances of Mean Girls: High School Version for delighted audiences this spring.

Members of the talented cast and hard-working crew spent weeks preparing for the show, which was directed by Drama Club Advisor Jane Petruncola.

The hilarious musical was written by Tina Fey and lyricist Nell Benjamin, and composed by Jeff Richmond. It was adapted from Fey’s 2004 hit film, Mean Girls.

The show follows Cady Heron (played by Marlboro’s Janice Werba), who moves to suburban Illinois after growing up on an African savanna. The naive high school newbie wastes no time trying to take on The Plastics, a trio of vicious “frenemies” led by the charming but ruthless Regina George (Emma Bogaczyk). Cady and her friends devise a way to end Regina’s reign as Queen Bee, but they quickly learn that taking her down isn’t as easy as they’d hoped.

The musical also starred Abby Douglass as Gretchen Weiners, Olivia Ciaccio as Karen Smith, Devin Brooks as Damian Hubbard, Sophia Dunn as Janis Sarksian, Zachary Moran as Kevin G., and Noah Ernst as Aaron Samuels.

The production featured no shortage of catchy songs, including “Where Do You Belong?,” “What’s Wrong With Me?,” “Fearless,” and “I’d Rather Be Me.”

Bravo, Marlboro. To borrow a popular word from the show, the performances were so “fetch!”
