Patrick and Ann Marie D’Aliso

Breaking the Cycle, a powerful, award-winning program that focuses on honest communication and forgiveness as an alternative to violence and conflict, came to Marlboro High School on April 12.

Assembly speakers included Hashim Garrett, who turned his life around after being paralyzed in a gang-related incident, and Patrick and Ann Marie D’Aliso, who struggled to forgive themselves after their 16-year-old son took his own life.

The speakers urged students to let go of anger, hatred, and bitterness in order to improve their lives and the lives of those around them. They also spoke about empathy and compassion, and the importance of teens taking action if they, or someone they know, are struggling.
