A firefighter stands in front of a fire truck with students

Fire Prevention Week took place October 11-15 and to celebrate, members of the Marlboro, Middlehope, and Milton Fire Departments visited Marlboro Elementary School to reinforce this year’s national theme: “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape.”

During the visit, which took place on October 14, students from all grade levels were able to get an up-close look at several fire trucks and learn about the various pieces of life-saving equipment that firefighters use. The brave emergency service professionals also shared important fire safety tips and helped the junior firefighters-in-training take turns using a real fire hose.

The young Dukes were left with a strong appreciation for the work that firefighters do, as well as a deep understanding of how their own behavior can prevent danger, and even save lives.
