Principal handing a certificate to a student

Congratulations to the winners of Marlboro Elementary School’s first-ever Black History Month Literary Contest, some of whom are pictured here! For the contest, which ran through February, students in Kindergarten through Grade 2 were encouraged to design a poster based on the theme “Resistance,” while students in Grades 3 through 5 were invited to write an essay on the same topic.

In the poster category, Grade 1 student Penelope Scuitto won first place, Grade 2 student Yiska Clark won second, and Kindergarten student Josie DeBella took third. In the writing contest, first place went to Grade 5 student Zoe Schepman, second place went to Grade 3 student Mayowa Baker–Fann, and third place went to Grade 4 student Annalise Vittoria. In addition, Madysyn Gilbert and Adam Williams earned special recognition for Writing Achievement.

Each winner was presented with a certificate and a Dunkin Donuts gift card. Thank you to all of the Dukes who participated in last month's contest. We hope you learned a lot about black history and culture!
