    Attention all Students & Families:

    Each week, I will post assignments for Research Literacy and STEAM on Monday morning no later than 9am. The assignments for the week will be listed below and be posted on Google Classroom. Please email me with any questions or concerns at christine.kelly@marlboroschools.org. Keep up the great work, and take care of yourselves! 

    Assignments for June 1-5

    Research Literacy: This week, we will review some more key words and ideas that we have learned throughout the year. Watch my video in Google Classroom and then complete a short exit ticket in Google Forms. 

    STEAM: This summer, NASA is launching a new mission to Mars, as part of its ongoing Mars Exploration Program. This week, we are going to learn a bit more about this program and NASA's past mission to Mars with the Curiosity Rover. You'll have a chance to experience Mars yourself with Access Mars, a virtual reality program created by NASA and Google that uses photos of Mars taken by the Curiosity Rover. Read through my slides in Google Classroom, watch the videos, and complete a short worksheet. 

    Assignments for May 26-29

    Research Literacy: This week, we will complete a lesson Learning.com to review some key concepts from throughout the year, including online privacy, website evaluation, citations, and copyright. Watch my video on Google Classroom for instructions and tips. 

    STEAM: This week, we will practice some math skills AND some productive struggle (remember, it helps your brain grow!). You will complete a digital escape room. Watch my video on Google Classroom for instructions and tips, and feel free to invite your family! 

    Assignments for May 18-22

    Research Literacy: This week, we will identify the guidelines of fair use and then apply those guidelines to real-world examples. You'll need to watch my video to complete the worksheet.  All details and materials are posted on Google Classroom. 

    STEAM: This week, we will watch a segment from the CBS newscast 60 Minutes to answer some questions on deep-sea mining. Watch my video to complete the worksheet. All details and materials are posted on Google Classroom. 

    Assignments for May 11-15 

    Research Literacy: This week, we will learn some vocabulary words related to copyright and plagiarism. Students should complete the worksheet in Google Classroom by using my video. 

    STEAM: Complete and document one of the three activities in the STEAM menu. Watch my video in Google Classroom for more details. 

    Assignments for May 4 - 8

    Research Literacy: We will continue our work with spreadsheets this week. You will use some of the functions you practiced in Learning.com last week to create your own spreadsheets in Google Sheets. Watch my video on Google Classroom for detailed instructions on how to complete this week's assignment. 

    STEAM: You will choose ONE of three options to complete over the next two weeks. Make sure to tell me which option you are choosing by Friday, May 8. Watch my video in Google Classroom for more details. 

    Assignments for April 27 - May 1

    Research Literacy: This week, we are going to start working on spreadsheets. We will learn some key vocabulary words related to spreadsheets, and then do two lessons on Learning.com. These lessons are interactive tutorials that will allow us to practice some basic functions in spreadsheets. Watch my video on Google Classroom for instructions and more detail. 

    STEAM: This week, we are continuing our work with series and parallel circuits by designing them in the Circuit Construction Kit program. Watch my video on Google Classroom for the login information and directions on how to use this program. 

    Assignments for April 20-24

    Research Literacy: As a student experiencing this pandemic firsthand, you have the opportunity to create primary sources that future students can learn from! This week, we will review what primary sources are and then create a primary source that shows what life is like for you right now. Watch my video in Google Classroom for instructions and then complete the attached worksheet. Make sure you click the "Turn In" button when you're done, and do your best work! 

    STEAM: You will watch a short video on series and parallel circuits, and then draw one of each. Open the assignment and materials in Google Classroom, and don't forget to "Turn In" your work! 

    Assignments for April 13-17

    Research Literacy: This week, we will take a look at primary sources. Open the assignment on Google Classroom, watch my video, and then complete the Primary Source Analysis worksheet. Directions for the worksheet are all on my video. Once you complete the worksheet, make sure to "TURN IN" your work. 

    STEAM: This week's assignment focuses on electrical circuits. Watch the 4-minute video on Electrical Circuits from BrainPop. The link and login information are on my Google Classroom. Then, complete the electrical circuit worksheet and remember to click the TURN IN button when complete. 

    Assignments for April 6-10

    Research Literacy: 
        1) Complete a short 5 question survey about how you work from home (link is on Google Classroom). There are no right or wrong answers! Your feedback will help me plan future lessons.

        2) The third marking period ends Friday, April 10. Use this week to make up any missing work! If you complete the tourism brochure and typing exercises, you will receive extra credit for the third quarter. All work must be completed by Friday, April 10!

    STEAM

    The third marking period ends this Friday, April 10. If you complete the music video or musical art coding activities, you will receive extra credit for STEAM for the third quarter. Watch the tutorial videos on Google CS First, and then try it yourself in Scratch. Make sure that you SHARE and SAVE your work in Scratch! Otherwise, I won't be able to see it.

    Assignments for March 30 - April 3

    Research Literacy: Complete the typing exercises on Learning.com (https://www.learning.com/). There are 14 exercises assigned. In total, it should take about an hour - and many of you already have a few exercises complete! You must get an 80% or higher in order to pass to the next exercise. Remember to take it slowly and keep your fingers in the correct positions so that you can eventually type without looking!

    Assignments for March 16-27

    Research Literacy: Work on your Tourism Brochure in Google Classroom. Instructions, examples, and templates are all provided in Google Classroom.

    STEAM: Join my STEAM Google Classroom to work on coding activities. There is a dance music video and musical art activity set up through Scratch. If you need your username/password, then email me.
