Marlboro Beats Red Hook to capture the MHAL Division II Title!

    At Lake Katrine, Steve Macfarland and Jason Monti combined on a one-hit shutout Friday night as undefeated Marlboro High locked up the Mid-Hudson Athletic League's Division II baseball title with a 9-0 victory over second-place Red Hook at Gruner Field.

    Macfarland allowed one hit - a single by Dana Roth - while striking out 10 over six innings to improve his record to 6-0. Monti relieved in the seventh and struck out the side.

    Marlboro, now 16-0 in the MHAL and 17-0 overall, took command with a three-run first.

Marlboro 13, Spakenkill 0

    Marlboro High's baseball team remained perfect Wednesday, posting a 13-0 victory over Mid-Hudson Athletic League's division foe Spakenkill.

    With their 15th league triumph, the Dukes clinched a tie for the Division II lead. Jesse Marsh pitched a complete game four-hitter for the win.

    Jason Monti spearheaded Marlboro's attack by driving in five runs with a single, two doubles and a two-run homer. John Giametta hit a three-run homer in the third to open a 8-0 lead.

    Winning pitcher Jason Monti struck out 13 batters and was 4-for-5 at the plate with two home runs and seven RBIs in leading the undefeated Marlboro High School baseball team past Highland, 19-1, in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League's Division game on Monday.

    Monti fired a two-hitter for the state's No. 1 team, according to the latest New York State Sportswriters poll.

    Danny Alfonso went 4-for-4 with a double and four RBIs for Marlboro.

Marlboro 4, Red Hook 3 (May 8)

    At Lake Katrine, the Dukes won Thursday's showdown for first place in Division II thanks to the one-hit, 16-strike-out pitching of Steve Macfarland and Jason Monti's two-run homer in the fifth.

    Freshman pitcher Evan Coon went 6 1/3 strong innings in a losing effort for the Red Raiders (2-1 division, 7-3 MHAL, 9-3 overall).

    Macfarland also contributed three singles and one RBI for Marlboro (3-0, 13-0, 14-0 overall), the top ranked Class B team in the state. Matt Molinelli stole two bases and scored twice, while Mike Giacoia made an over-the-shoulder catch in deep center to rob Bobby Janelli of an extra-base hit in the third inning.

    Janelli singled for the only Raider hit.

Marlboro 4, Webutuck 2 (May 7)

    At North East, Justin Duchin made the most of an opportunity to pitch for the Dukes. Duchin, who works behind standouts Jason Monti and Steve Macfarland in Marlboro's rotation, held the Warriors to just four hits. Duchin needed only 65 pitches defeat The Warriors.

    John Giammetta struck the big blow for Marlboro with a two-run homer in the second off losing pitcher Dillon Fontaine. The blast put the Dukes ahead 3-0. Monti and Macfarland drove in Marlboro's other runs with singles.

    Nick Baker spoiled Duchin's shutout in the fourth with a two-run homer of his own.

 

Undefeated Marlboro Rolls Past Highland behind Monti

Highland 0, Marlboro 8 (May 6)

Winning pitcher Jason Monti fired a three-hitter and struck out 15 as the undefeated Marlboro High School baseball team blanked rival Highland in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League game on Tuesday.

    Monti, 4-0, was 3-3 with two triples, three runs scored and two RBIs. Steve Macfarland added two doubles and three RBIs for Marlboro. Matt Molinelli also drove in two runs with a single. Marlboro is now 12-0 overall, 11-0 in league, and 2-0 in thier division.

 

   Marlboro 17, Coleman 2 (May 5)

    On Monday, Mike Giacoia hit a two-run homer in the first inning and Matt Molinelli a solo shot in the third to give Marlboro a 5-2 advantage. Jason Monti's bases-loaded triple clinched the win in a seven-run sixth. Jesse Marsh, 4-0, allowed one earned run on six hits over five innings to earn the win.

    Gene DeMayo and Anthony Wenzel had two hits apiece for Coleman Catholic.

MacFarland's second no-hitter powers Marlboro (April 30)

    Pitcher Steve MacFarland achieved the rare feat of pitching his second no-hitter of the Mid-Hudson Athletic League baseball season Wednesday. The sequal was more impressive than the original for Steve. "Big Dogg", as was Steve's nickname given to him by Marlboro Coach Frank Taddeo, struck out 18 New Paltz batters in a 2-0 victory over the previously unbeaten Huguenots. On April 10, MacFarland held Spackenkill to no hits while striking out 13. The Dukes triumphed to a 15-0 victory.                                                                                                                                       

    Marlboro (9-0 league) provided MacFarland with a couple of early runs. Jason Monti (three singles) squeezed home Dan Pirillo (double) in the first, then Justin Duchin doubled in the second and scored on Danny Alfonso's single. Losing pitcher Moises Rivera settle down to blandk the Dukes the rest of the way.
